Daniel McCurdy

Daniel McCurdy is a wine sommelier in Key West, Florida. Although Daniel McCurdy trained to become a Chef at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Orlando, FL, it would be the front of the house where he would find his calling. Upon his arrival in Key West from his hometown of St. Petersburg, FL, Daniel landed his first job as a fine dining bartender at the James Beard nominated Nine One Five with former Chef Chris Otten and previous owners Stuart and Josephine Kemp. Under Stuarts mentorship he attained his Level 1 and Level 2 sommelier training with the United States Sommelier Association. Shortly after becoming the General Manager and then eventually an owner of 2 Cents Restaurant & Pub with local entrepreneur Christopher Shultz, Daniel completed his Level 3 certification which included blind tasting over 300 wines in 7 days. When his restaurant was physically destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017, Maria and Robert Sharpe hired Daniel as the Manager of the Roost  where he could keep crafting his passion. Here he has designed a “small, but well thought out” wine program with wines that he describes as “familiar, but sophisticated.” It has prompted him to pursue the nationally recognized title of Certified Specialist of Wine. Daniel is thrilled to be a part Isle Cook where he will be hosting a weekly wine tastings at the Roost every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm, and alongside Chef Martha Hubbard to create a five star community experience unlike any other on the island.
